Fields are the information each item holds. The list is on the left; the selected field's settings are beside it.

Add fields
Add a field and choose its type.
Or paste from a spreadsheet: copy a row of column headings (and a few rows of data) and paste. Conform guesses each field's type. Choose Add them or Replace the fields.
Field types
Text (with variants such as email, phone and web address), whole numbers, decimals, money, dates and date-times, yes/no, people, list and tree choices, photos and attachments, and more. Each type has its own settings, such as a maximum length, a range, or which list to use.
Settings on every field
Required - must be filled in. Only enforced when someone saves a form that lets them edit that field, so items can be filled in stage by stage by different roles.
Write-once - can be filled in once, then it's locked.
More than one value - for example several sites.
Restricted - for list and tree fields: the field limits which items each role sees. See Access.
Sortable, filterable and searchable - for big Topics, choose which fields people sort, filter and search by.
Removing a field
A field that's never been published is deleted. One that has been published is retired: hidden from new use, but its past values are kept.
